CALL FOR ARTISTS – NINTH CROATIAN BIENNALE OF ILLUSTRATION (APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 10th, 2022)

Organized by the Klovićevi dvori Gallery, the Ninth Croatian Biennale of Illustration is an international group exhibition aimed at promoting the works of contemporary Croatian and foreign illustrators in an international context. The exhibition will be held from June 2nd to July 10th, 2022.

Works will be selected with an emphasis on their quality, regardless of the technique (drawing, painting, graphic or digital technique). This year’s competition theme is an illustration as a proposal for a Klovićevi dvori Gallery poster, to commemorate the Gallery’s 40th anniversary. Artists are invited to propose a maximum of two (2) works in standard poster dimensions of B1 (700x1000mm) that illustratively depict (interpret and follow) programs of the Gallery, past and current. To become familiar with the Gallery’s work, authors are invited to visit our website and see the program under ‘Exhibition Chronology’ (Kronologija izložbi) or ‘Program -> Exhibitions’ (Izložbe), and choose motifs and typography for their work. We also invite everyone to feel free to use our logo in their work or interpret it in a new light.

To participate, artists must enclose a photograph of their work proposed for the exhibition (maximum 1) in a resolution suitable for publication in the catalogue (tiff. format) and on the Klovićevi dvori Gallery website (jpg. format).

It is necessary to enclose:
-Information about the artwork (title, year of creation, technique, dimensions)
-Personal data (name, surname, contact e-mail, and telephone / mobile phone number)

The selection will include works by Croatian and foreign artists regardless of their formal education in the applied arts. Works in ceramics, jewellery, textile design, and collage are excluded. Complete and timely applications will be examined by an expert jury appointed by the Director of the Klovićevi dvori Gallery, Antonio Picukarić, and museum advisor Koraljka Jurčec Kos.

After the end of the competition and the selection of works, the results will be published on the Gallery’s website. The expert jury will publish the list of selected works by April 25th, 2022. The selected works should be received by post or brought in-person to the Gallery between April 26th and April 29th 2022 after consultation with curator Koraljka Jurčec Kos (e-mail: koraljka.jurcec.kos@gkd.hr)
