The Croatian Biennale of Illustration is an event that from 2006 onward presents renowned and new Croatian and foreign artists on the contemporary illustration scene.
The event aims to point out the creative continuity and development of applied arts. Through the collaboration with artists from around the world and through selected topics, we present a selection of works, thus, reminding the audience of important institutions and schools in contemporary illustration.
This year’s Call for Artists, published on the Klovićevi dvori Gallery’s website and social media, gave candidates a specific task: to illustrate a poster proposal for the client, given the fact that in 2022 we mark the 40th anniversary of the Klovićevi dvori Gallery.
In the end, we selected seven Croatian artists: Sanja Feratović, Dino Idrizbegović, Dubravka Periša, Luka Petrač, Sanja Pribić, Ana Salopek and Nikolina Žabčić, who are presenting their work at this exhibition. In addition, all seven authors are collectively awarded by having their work exhibited at the Vladimir Filakovac Gallery in the fall of 2022.
Part of the exhibition is dedicated to selected works by three excellent Spanish illustrators: Javier Sáez Castán, Manuel Marsol, and Cristina Sitja Rubio, with the help of the scholarship and support from the Acción Cultural Española agency and its Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture.
Last but not least, as part of the exhibition, we decided to present the historical section entitled ‘Illustration in Croatian poster’ in which we present the essential works in poster art in the 20th and 21st centuries.
