Exhibition of children’s works entitled “In the Beginning Was a Drawing…”

On Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11 a.m., we will open an exhibition of children’s works entitled “In the Beginning Was a Drawing…” at the Klovićevi dvori Gallery. The works were created as part of the art workshops accompanying the exhibition “In the Beginning Was the Kingdom – an exhibition marking 1100 years of the Croatian Kingdom“. In addition to school children, citizens and pensioners, the youngest visitors from kindergartens in the city of Zagreb also participated in numerous art workshops.

Having become acquainted with the history of our people through the exhibition and interesting exhibits of our cultural heritage, the children were given the opportunity to express their impressions in various art media: from drawings to paintings, sculptures or objects.

The children’s creativity and imagination were guided by the Gallery’s art pedagogue Liljana Velkovski, as well as the artists: Alana Kajfež, Helena Ramljak, Antonija Balić, Duje Medić, Vitold Košir and Velibor Mačukatin.

As every succesful artistic endeavor requires an audience, we decided to organize an exhibition to reward our diligent little visitors, perhaps future artists, curators or museum professionals.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Artionica workshops, art workshops of the Klovićevi dvori Gallery. May the creative moments spent at the Gallery remain in the children’s permanent memory of a unique exhbition event on the occasion of the great anniversary of the Croatian Kingdom, and may the exhibition of children’s works be a new incentive for the audience to continue participating and following our exhibition and all accompanying programs in the future.

Liljana Velkovski, muesum advisor, Artionica workshops manager
