DRAWING WORKSHOP
16 May 2026: 11:00 – 12:30
At the exhibition “In the Beginning Was the Kingdom – an exhibition marking 1100 years of the Croatian Kingdom” we learned that the word “falconer” is one of the oldest Croatian words written in Latin. During those days, we invited the famous Croatian sculptor, musician and falconer, Vitold Košir, to honor us with his visit to the workshop. He prepared a big surprise for us by bringing with him a hawk and a little owl. This time, he will bring us a hawk again, and maybe an eagle, so we will all watch them together as they fly or proudly rest on Vitold’s arm. We will transfer our delight at their closeness to paper.
FIND OUT MORE: Vitold Košir is a sculptor and musician, and his greatest passion is falconry, which he has been practicing for 40 years. Falconry has since flourished in Croatia. The Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia has protected it as intangible cultural heritage and initiated the process of including it on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List, which they succeeded in doing. Together with his colleague Sanja Perić Gavrančić, he wrote a book about the myths, legends and history of falconry. A document from 1070 was also found, which confirms the long presence of falconry in Croatia. In that document, the Croatian word “sokol” (falcon) was written in Latin.
The Museum Educational Action (EMA) on the occasion of International Museum Day on the theme of Roots ideally coincided with our exhbition “In the Beginning Was the Kingdom – an exhibition marking 1100 years of the Croatian Kingdom” because the exhibition presented the most relevant artifacts of our heritage, the roots of the Croatian people and our identity – the children, with their works made at the creative workshops accompanying that exhibition, which you can now see on display at the current exhibition “In the Beginning Was a Drawing…”, encouraged us to continue to persevere in preserving and presenting our valuable heritage.
The exhibition “The Artists’ Manor – Into the Sky made of Clouds” presents artists associated with the studios of the Oršić-Jakovlje Castle and its International Sculpture Park. The exhibition will offer a selection of the works the artists have created in the castle since 1973 and those who participated in one of the 17 International Art Colonies held on the castle grounds between 1993 and 2014. The park currently houses 64 sculptures, works of different poetics and origins that, as a whole, provide a representative overview of Croatian sculpture from the second half of the 20th century. The Republic of Croatia has declared this park a permanently protected cultural asset of national importance.
1. CASTLE MAKING WORKSHOP
23 May 2026: 11:00 – 12:30
When we were little, we fantasized about princes and princesses and their comfortable lives in beautiful castles. They lived happily and carefree, walking in parks, riding horses, going hunting, hosting balls… In one such castle, artists have their studios, whose works you can see in the exhibition “The Artists’ Manor – Into the Sky made of Clouds”. Lets construct our perfect castle out of cardboard with the help of academic sculptor Alen Novoselec, and let that castle in Jakovlje be a model for our own castles.

TASK: Constructing the castle from cardboard and paper, that becomes a sculptural material subject, infinetly variable, yet stable and easily accessible.
2. SCULPTING WORKSHOP
13 June 2026: 11:00 – 12:30
These three little horses you see in the picture together create a somewhat anticipatory atmosphere. Namely, while the horse on the left is grazing, the other two horses are “fighting” for attention. Or maybe the story is going the other way: the horse grazing is only pretending to be grazing, not looking at the two other horses as they approach each other affectionately.
TASK: Make horses out of clay, make an interesting formation, and at the end of the workshop, we will try to figure out the story behind your horse’s layout.
3. POSTER MAKING WORKSHOP
20 June 2026: 11:00 – 12:30
To create the posters, we invited Nataša Hrust, a graphic designer and illustrator whose posters, dedicated to some past events of the Artists’ Manor in Jakovlje, can also be seen at this exhibition. A poster is a carrier of information consisting of text and image, or just one of them. Readability and simplicity are important because of the speed of reading. The main task of a poster is easy-to-understand communication with the viewer – communication of some information, a message.

TASK: Create a poster for the opening of a future exhibition using the collage technique.
